R:a+ dining
Two main dining rooms are joined in one continuous room, while the third dining/cafe wing and kitchen can be thermally separated in the day. Roof canopies cantilever out from the central core to cover the dining tables. Long platform tables will be suspended from the scaffold structure.
R:a+ café / takeout
R:a+ will provide opportunities to expand the breadth of participation to include a curated group of up-and-coming chefs, baristas, and mixoligists. The dining/cafe wing will facilitate opportunities to expose this type of experimentation to the public.
In the daytime this next generation of culinary artists will offer a range from delectable finger foods to hot beverages that can be purchased by the general public in a casual, skate-through environment.
R:a+ gallery
The uninterrupted dining room exterior wall will perform as a canvas for murals produced by invited local artists. The mural will become a visual timeline, with each artist being provided a section to work on for the duration of each guest chef’s tenure.
R:a+ cinema
To activate more public interaction with R:a+, free video screenings will be offered. Films will be projected onto the scaffold’s skin, appearing inverted to entertain passing skaters on the river.
R:a+ fashion
Winnipeg’s fashion community will be asked to partake in the event. The suspended dining tables will serve as the runway for the fashion shows.
R:a+ sound
DJs, musicians, and performance artists can be hosted. The core will serve as the performance space.
R:a+ beacon
Local video/installation artists will be vetted for the production of a custom multi-media work within the tower core. This vertical structure becomes an exterior lighting element and will serve as a form of wayfinding on the river.
